UI designer

A person responsible for the design of the user interface. Like the technical writer, this is one of the most critical and least-understood professions in the computer industry. Good UI design takes years to master, yet is often relegated to the most junior people.

GUI

(Graphical User Interface) A graphics-based user interface that incorporates movable windows, icons and a mouse. The ability to resize application windows and change style and size of fonts are the significant advantages of a GUI vs. a character-based interface. GUIs have become the standard way users interact with a computer, and the major GUIs are the Windows and Mac interfaces along with Motif for Unix and the GNOME and KDE interfaces for Linux.

Web designer

A person who creates a Web site. Web designers may use Web authoring software or an HTML editor to create the actual pages, or they may design the overall look and let a Webmaster do the actual coding.

Interaction Design

Interaction Design is the creation of a representational dialogue among people and intelligent products, environments and communications encountered in their everyday experience.

As products become more complicated, often due to technology, designers are facing new challenges in gaining strong user acceptance. The number of people using and developing products powered by some sort of technology continues to grow; these new systems are more functional and robust than ever, providing more features, functionality, and capabilities.

Interaction Design exists as the design of behavior, bounded by three core interests: Human, Technical and Aesthetic.

full version

User Experience (UX) Design

User Experience (UX) Design defines a sequence of screen presentations, user interactions, and system responses that meet user goals and tasks while satisfying business and functional requirements.

Typical outputs include
Wireframes (screen blueprints or storyboards)
Prototypes
Written specifications that describe the design
